Vying for attention alongside the world’s tallest cinema, the Premier Inn Buchanan Galleries dominates the skyline of Glasgow’s city centre shopping district.
In a prime location on one of the city’s busiest streets, the project to replace the hotel’s traditional rainscreen system presented us with a challenge. The building’s original ACM panels had been factory fitted onto a unitised curtain wall system. Panel fixings were inaccessible and the seal to the unitised system couldn’t be compromised. Removing the panels needed us to take a different approach.
We worked with the project architects and a facade consultant to agree a process for the safe removal of the existing cladding. We then installed the sleek, stylish new rainscreen and cladding facade. The hotel remained open throughout the project, with our crew working to the pandemic restrictions of the time.
Now complete, new vertical lighting on its external walls adds a touch of drama that ensures the gleaming hotel continues to shine in the Glasgow skyline.
